Hyderabad's HMWSSB Unveils Mini Sewerage Master Plan for Nanakramguda and Financial District
Hyderabad's Mini Sewerage Plan for Nanakramguda & Financial District

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has taken a significant step towards enhancing urban infrastructure by announcing the development of a mini sewerage master plan. This initiative is specifically designed to bolster the sewerage network and construct essential trunk mains in the rapidly expanding areas of Nanakramguda and the Financial District.

Strategic Planning for Future Growth

These area-specific mini sewerage plans will be meticulously crafted, taking into account projected future growth patterns. The planning process involves a comprehensive analysis of existing drains, stormwater networks, and trunk mains to ensure a fully integrated approach. This method aims to prevent infrastructure gaps and promote sustainable development in these key economic zones.

Emphasis on Separation and Integration

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy has underscored the critical importance of completely separating sewer lines from stormwater drains. This separation is vital for preventing contamination and improving overall public health and environmental safety. Reddy has directed officials to prepare and submit detailed proposals for the construction of new sewerage trunk mains and sub-sewerage lines, aligning these efforts with the broader Hyderabad 2047 Master Plan.

Assessing and Enhancing Treatment Capacity

In a move to future-proof the city's sewage management, the MD has instructed officials to conduct thorough assessments of sewage generation within the catchment areas of the Nanakramguda Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). Based on these assessments, steps will be taken to enhance treatment capacity, ensuring it meets future demand efficiently and effectively.

Diverting Sewage for Optimal Treatment

Additionally, proposals have been requested for the construction of a sewer trunk main to divert sewage generated in Gachibowli and its surrounding areas. This sewage will be redirected to the Kokapet STP for treatment, optimizing resource use and improving service delivery across the region.

This comprehensive mini sewerage master plan represents a proactive approach by HMWSSB to address the challenges of rapid urbanization, ensuring that Hyderabad's infrastructure keeps pace with its growth and development aspirations.
