In a significant move to tackle the persistent parking woes in Hyderabad, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has announced a suite of new initiatives aimed at streamlining vehicle parking across the city. The decisions were finalized during a high-level 'Convergence Meeting' held at the TG-ICCC on Thursday.
Digital Solution and Infrastructure Push
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan revealed that a dedicated parking application will be launched shortly. This app is designed to assist citizens in locating available parking spots with ease, reducing the time spent circling congested areas. Alongside the digital push, officials have decided to establish more multi-level parking facilities to maximize space utilization in the city's busiest zones.
To bring order to the chaotic auto-rickshaw parking, the civic body is planning to create dedicated parking zones for autos. Key locations identified for this initiative include areas near Osmania Hospital and other notoriously congested parts of the city, aiming to curb haphazard parking that often disrupts traffic flow.
Synergy Between Police and Civic Departments
Highlighting the need for coordinated efforts, Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar emphasized that public services achieve peak efficiency only when police and municipal departments work in complete synergy. The meeting served as a platform to foster this collaborative approach towards urban management.
Combatting Waterlogging and Streamlining Bus Stops
Beyond parking, the discussions also focused on critical infrastructure upgrades. A major point on the agenda was the enhancement of the drainage system to prevent water stagnation during monsoons. The successful 'robotic cleaning' model, which was previously deployed in the Malakpet area, will now be implemented at all major waterlogging points across Hyderabad to ensure cleaner and more efficient drains.
Furthermore, proposals to relocate certain bus stops to wider segments of roads were discussed. This measure is intended to decongest narrow lanes and improve the overall flow of traffic, making public transport more accessible and reducing bottlenecks.
The convergence of key officials from the police and municipal corporations signals a holistic approach to solving Hyderabad's urban challenges, with a clear focus on technology, infrastructure, and inter-departmental cooperation.
