An Indian Air Force (IAF) veteran, who chose to spend his post-retirement years teaching underprivileged children, was recently felicitated in Chandigarh for his remarkable contribution to society. The veteran, identified as Squadron Leader (retd) R. K. Sharma, has been voluntarily teaching students from economically weaker sections in the city for several years.
Recognition for Selfless Service
The event, organized by a local NGO, honored Sharma for his dedication and impact on the lives of hundreds of children. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma said, "I always believed that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world. After my retirement, I wanted to give back to society, and teaching seemed the most fulfilling way."
Impact on Students
Many of Sharma's students have gone on to pursue higher education and secure good jobs. One of his former students, now a software engineer, said, "Sir not only taught us subjects but also instilled in us the values of discipline and hard work. He is a true inspiration."
Call for More Volunteers
The NGO has urged more retired professionals to come forward and volunteer for similar causes. "If every retired professional dedicates even a few hours a week, we can bridge the educational gap in our society," said the NGO's founder.
Sharma's story serves as a reminder that age is no barrier to making a difference. His efforts have not only transformed individual lives but also contributed to the community's overall development.
