Indore District Administration Launches Major Fire Safety Compliance Drive
The district administration in Indore has initiated a comprehensive city-wide crackdown targeting structures that fail to comply with established fire safety norms. In a decisive move, authorities have issued a strict 15-day ultimatum to all G+3 (ground plus three floors) and multi-storey buildings, mandating the immediate rectification of any anomalies related to their fire safety arrangements.
Official Directive and Inspection Strategy
During a high-level meeting held on Sunday, Collector Shivam Verma announced that owners of commercial buildings and residential high-rises have precisely two weeks to ensure their fire safety systems are fully operational and compliant. "Starting tomorrow (Monday), special teams led by Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) will commence rigorous field inspections across the city," Verma stated emphatically.
The meeting, which included key officials such as Municipal Commissioner Kshitij Singhal, revenue officers, and building inspectors, meticulously outlined a strategic plan to survey and penalize structures that present significant risks to public safety. The administration's comprehensive checklist encompasses critical operational equipment, including fire extinguishers, sprinkler systems, and hydrants, all of which must be verified as fully functional.
Specific Compliance Requirements and Legal Mandates
Collector Verma further elaborated on the stringent requirements, emphasizing that "emergency exit routes must be clearly marked, adequately illuminated, and completely free of any obstructions." He underscored the necessity of adhering to legal compliance protocols, which involve the thorough verification of valid fire safety licenses and proper building permissions for all structures under scrutiny.
"Public safety is our supreme priority. Any negligence regarding fire safety norms will not be tolerated, and strict punitive action, including the potential cancellation of licenses, will be taken against violators," Verma declared, reinforcing the administration's zero-tolerance stance.
Addressing Illegal Constructions and Long-Term Enforcement
Officials highlighted a prevalent issue where numerous structures have undergone unauthorized expansions that blatantly violate building bylaws, often blocking essential ventilation or escape routes. In response, the Collector directed officials to promptly identify these illegal constructions. Owners will be served formal notices demanding the removal of such unauthorized portions. Failure to comply will result in the administration initiating demolition proceedings to eliminate these hazards.
To ensure sustained adherence rather than temporary fixes, the administration plans to conduct random inspections even after the 15-day grace period concludes. This proactive approach aims to foster long-term compliance and maintain rigorous fire safety standards across Indore's urban landscape, safeguarding residents and property from potential fire-related disasters.
