Indore and Mandsaur Launch Weekly Jal Sunwai to Tackle Water Issues
In a significant move to address water-related problems, the Indore Municipal Corporation and Mandsaur district administration have announced a new initiative. They will hold Jal Sunwai, or water hearings, every Tuesday. This step comes as part of the state-wide Swachh Jal Abhiyan, launched after the tragic deaths in Bhagirathpura.
Indore's Plan for Water Hearings
Indore mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav and municipal commissioner Kshitij Singhal revealed the details. They have designated the campuses of overhead water tanks in all 85 wards of the city as hearing sites. Every Tuesday, from 11am to 1pm, officials will be present at these locations to interact with residents.
Citizens can directly register complaints or suggestions on various issues. These include new water connections and billing problems. They also cover disruptions in water supply or low pressure. Leaking pipelines and infrastructure damage are other key concerns.
The administration aims for a transparent and time-bound resolution. Cases manageable at the zone level will be resolved immediately. Complex matters requiring high-level intervention will be forwarded to the headquarters. This decentralised approach should benefit every resident.
Mandsaur's Integration with Public Hearings
Mandsaur district administration has decided to integrate Jal Sunwai into its existing weekly public hearing system. This initiative will cover both urban and rural sectors. Mandsaur collector Aditi Garg explained the plan.
The hearings will extend to gram panchayat and ward levels. Officials will address specific rural concerns there. These include maintenance and repair of hand pumps. Fluctuating groundwater levels and tube well issues are also on the agenda. Rural pipeline extensions and community water tanks will be discussed too.

The administrations of both Indore and Mandsaur have appealed to citizens. They urge people to utilize these platforms to voice their concerns. Following the recent water-borne health crisis, the authorities are prioritising key actions.
They aim to strengthen water infrastructure across the regions. Ensuring the supply of safe, clean drinking water to every household is a top goal. This initiative represents a proactive effort to improve public health and service delivery.
