Indore Metro Achieves 80 km/h Milestone in Critical Speed Trials
The Indore Metro project has taken a significant leap forward as its train successfully completed high-speed trials, reaching the maximum operational speed of 80 kilometers per hour. This crucial testing phase was conducted on the elevated stretch between Super Corridor and Radisson Square this Tuesday, marking the culmination of an intensive three-day safety inspection.
Rigorous Safety Audits and Speed Brake Tests Conducted
Under the vigilant supervision of the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), the 'Speed Brake Test' was executed four times to ensure absolute reliability. The train was pushed to its operational limit of 80 km/h before undergoing emergency braking procedures, meticulously verifying all safety parameters on the viaduct. This physical audit is now complete, positioning the city on the brink of receiving the formal No Objection Certificate (NOC), which is expected to green-light commercial operations on this extended route.
Detailed Station Inspections and Public Enthusiasm
Earlier on Tuesday, CMRS Nilabhra Sengupta, accompanied by a six-member team, conducted exhaustive static station audits. They spent approximately an hour at each of the new stations—Meghdoot, Vijay Nagar, and Radisson Square—scrutinizing exit gates, lifts, escalators, parking zones, and passenger logistics. Special attention was given to facilities for differently-abled passengers, including ramps, as well as critical infrastructure like the control command centre, signalling centre, and the stabling yard at the metro depot. The team also inspected the dedicated electric sub-station at MR-10.
As evening fell, the high-speed runs captivated local residents. Large crowds gathered near MR-10 and Vijay Nagar, eagerly watching the brightly lit metro coaches glide gracefully across the skyline, a testament to the community's anticipation for this transformative urban mobility project.
Official Statements and Future Expansion Plans
A metro official confirmed that any minor suggestions from the CMRS report will be addressed promptly by the management. Once the final NOC is issued, the operational metro network will expand dramatically from the current 6 kilometers—stretching from Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor—to a total of 17.5 kilometers. This extension will directly connect the airport area to the bustling Radisson Square, significantly enhancing connectivity and reducing travel time across the city.
The successful completion of these trials underscores the project's adherence to stringent safety standards and operational readiness. With the NOC imminent, Indore is poised to usher in a new era of efficient public transportation, promising to alleviate traffic congestion and boost economic activity in the region.
