Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Rajiv Ranjan on Friday directed officials of the drinking water and sanitation department (DWSD) and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) to prepare alternative plans to ensure uninterrupted supply of water and electricity to residents. The directives came as Jamshedpur and other parts of Kolhan division continued to experience scorching temperatures during the ongoing summer season.
Need for Collaborative Efforts
“People should not face water problems due to power transmission faults. Hence, it is imperative for both departments to work in tandem and prepare backup plans,” Ranjan said in his first meeting since assuming office. He emphasized that seamless coordination between the two departments is essential to prevent disruptions in essential services.
Repairs and Monitoring
Ranjan instructed DWSD officials to repair faulty handpumps and water supply pipelines across the district on a war footing. He directed officials to step out of their offices and conduct continuous monitoring of public welfare schemes to improve governance. “Strict time frames must be observed for administrative tasks, with adequate and dedicated hours allocated for public grievance redressal,” the DC told officials.
Accountability Measures
He also instructed collectorate officials not to leave their chambers without prior information and approval from authorities. This move aims to ensure accountability and prompt response to citizen issues.
Background
The summer heat has been intense in the Kolhan region, putting pressure on water and electricity supplies. The DC’s directives come as a proactive measure to mitigate problems faced by residents. By ordering backup plans, the administration seeks to avoid any crisis due to power outages affecting water pumps.
Officials have been asked to submit progress reports regularly. The DC stressed that public welfare should be the top priority, and any negligence will be dealt with strictly.
