The Jharkhand government has appealed to corporations operating in the state to channel their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities within its borders. Addressing the CSR Conclave-2026, Industries Minister Sanjay Prasad Yadav emphasized the ethical duty of businesses to support local communities by utilizing CSR funds in active operational zones rather than diverting capital to other states.
Minister's Call for Local CSR Investment
Yadav stated, “Companies should consider that if they are profiting from a state, they should spend their CSR funds to benefit the people of that state. If the public sees themselves and their younger generations benefiting, they would trust and support companies.” He highlighted the lack of transparency regarding corporate profits and subsequent CSR allocations within Jharkhand, noting, “At present, there is no monitoring of profit and expenditure of companies operating in Jharkhand. We will set up a monitoring cell so that this information is easily available for the public.”
Bridging the Gap Between Companies and Local Needs
Department Secretary Arava Rajkamal remarked, “While companies have various initiatives under their CSR work, there is still a disconnect between their work and the needs of the local people. There is a need to bridge the gap between companies and local needs to ensure proper utilization and large-scale impact of CSR works.” He added that friction regarding land possession, encroachment, and community protests often stems from a lack of clarity on corporate community investments.
Streamlining Clearances for CSR Projects
In response to complaints about bureaucratic delays in securing clearances for CSR project implementation, Rajkamal assured delegates that a directive would be sent to all deputy commissioners to hold regular meetings with corporate CSR teams, ensuring streamlined clearances. This move aims to facilitate smoother execution of CSR initiatives and foster better collaboration between the government and private sector.
