Jharkhand Minister Vows Apolitical University Campuses, Genuine Student Unions
Jharkhand Minister Vows Apolitical University Campuses

Ranchi: State higher and technical education minister Sudivya Kumar on Friday said the state government will work to ensure that state university campuses remain apolitical and that the reign of students' unions remains in the hands of genuine students.

Minister's Remarks at Vice Chancellors' Meet

Speaking on the concluding day of the two-day vice chancellors' meet at a city hotel, Kumar stated, “The state government would, however, review the steps taken in the direction of higher education and ensure that our students are not inspired to acquire any political colour. Students should raise their problems, but they should be enrolled in the institutions and not from outside.”

Concerns Over Gross Enrolment Ratio

The minister expressed concern over Jharkhand's gross enrolment ratio in higher education, which is below the national average. He attributed one reason to the state's dependence for several years on contractual staff, including need-based teachers. Kumar added that if Jharkhand performed below expectation in higher education, the situation is not due to a single person, but everyone, including ministers and chancellors.
