Elderly Man Rescued in Jharsuguda Following Social Media Intervention
In a heartening display of community vigilance and administrative responsiveness, the district administration of Jharsuguda successfully rescued a 70-year-old man on Monday. The elderly individual was discovered lying on the roadside near Parmanpur village, prompting immediate action after a concerned citizen raised the alarm through social media.
Swift Action Initiated by District Collector
Under the direct supervision of Jharsuguda District Collector Kunal M Chavan, a rescue operation was swiftly mobilized. The administration acted promptly upon receiving a comment from Gangadhar Makar, who alerted officials about the man's precarious situation. The elderly person, identified as Lelin Sa, was safely retrieved and transported to the Panchpada old age home for necessary care and shelter.
Citizen's Alert Leads to Timely Rescue
Gangadhar Makar, who works as a driver, played a pivotal role in this rescue effort. During his night shift, he initially spotted Lelin Sa sitting under a tree in the Parmanpur area. "At first, I couldn't approach him because it was dark," Makar recounted. "But during my day shift, I went back, spoke to him, and learned he was from Korba in Chhattisgarh. He was disoriented, unsure how he ended up here, and expressed extreme hunger. I gave him water and food before heading to work."
Later, Makar noticed a post by the district magistrate appealing for public assistance in reuniting individuals with their families. He commented on the post, providing details about Lelin Sa. "I quickly got a response assuring help," he said. That same night, the Kolabira inspector in-charge contacted Makar to confirm the man had been rescued and relocated to the old age home.
