Kalaburagi District Launches Massive Rs 1,051.5 Crore Initiative to Provide Clean Drinking Water to All Villages

In a significant move to address the persistent water scarcity issues in Kalaburagi district, the government has embarked on an ambitious mission to ensure clean drinking water reaches every village and household. District Minister Priyank Kharge has detailed a comprehensive plan involving multi-village drinking water projects, with a total estimated cost of Rs 1,051.5 crore. This initiative aims to provide a permanent solution to the water problem that has plagued the region for years.

Substantial Financial Allocation and Project Progress

Kharge revealed that over Rs 887.8 crore has already been allocated for these critical projects, underscoring the government's commitment to resolving the water crisis. The works are currently underway across various taluks, targeting numerous villages and inhabited areas to create a robust water supply network.

The minister provided a breakdown of the ongoing projects:

  • In Afjalpur taluk, projects are progressing in Hasargundagi and six other villages, along with five villages along the route, at a cost of Rs 16 crore.
  • Sedam taluk sees works in Kachur village and nine other villages, with an allocation of Rs 12 crore.
  • In Chincholi taluk, efforts are focused on Basantpur and nine other villages, costing Rs 15 crore.

Design-Build-Operate-Transfer Projects and Extensive Coverage

A major component of this initiative is the design-build-operate-transfer project, which has been launched in Kalagi, Chittapur, Chincholi, and Kalaburagi taluks with an investment of Rs 260 crore. This project includes works in Bedasur and 95 other inhabited areas, as well as Kalagi town, ensuring widespread access to clean water.

Further expansions include:

  1. Works in Sannati and 75 other inhabited areas of Chittapur taluk, and in Kusnur and other villages of Kalaburagi taluk, at a cost of Rs 185 crore.
  2. Projects in nine residential areas of Koralli and four other villages, plus five residential areas en route, in Aland taluk, with an allocation of Rs 36 crore.
  3. Initiatives in 22 residential areas of Farhatabad and eight other villages in Kalaburagi taluk, costing Rs 85 crore.

Focus on Jewargi and Yadrami Taluks for Comprehensive Water Security

Kharge emphasized the extensive efforts in Jewargi taluk, where works are being carried out in 33 inhabited areas of 22 villages and in 66 inhabited areas of 58 other villages, including Alur of Yadrami taluk, with a substantial investment of Rs 265 crore. Additional projects in Jewargi taluk include:

  • Implementation in Kudi and 11 other villages at a cost of Rs 27 crore.
  • Allocation of Rs 71.5 crore for 23 inhabited areas of 16 villages, covering VK Salagar of Aland and Kamalpur taluk.
  • Ongoing works in 24 residential areas of Jewargi taluk and 24 other villages, with Rs 79 crore invested.

Kharge clarified that the government's top priority is to take proactive measures to prevent any future shortage of drinking water in the district. This massive investment and strategic planning highlight a dedicated approach to transforming Kalaburagi's water infrastructure, ensuring sustainable access to clean water for all residents and setting a benchmark for rural development in the region.
