The first phase of Census-2027 officially began in Kanpur district on Friday, with door-to-door house listing and building enumeration exercises underway across the region. Early in the morning, enumerators fanned out into villages, neighborhoods, and markets, marking numbers on houses and recording details of temples, dharamshalas, hotels, and shops.
Extensive Enumeration Drive
As many as 10,621 enumerators and supervisors are tasked with compiling information about buildings and households in every ward and village of the district. On the first day, prominent religious sites were cataloged, including the ISKCON Temple and the Kushmanda Temple in Ghatampur. The house listing for the ancient Baneshwar Mahadev Temple, located in the Gandhi Nagar ward of the Ghatampur Municipal Council, was also conducted as per the prescribed format.
Data Collection Details
District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh confirmed that the self-enumeration phase has concluded, and enumerators are now visiting households to collect information. He appealed to residents to cooperate and provide accurate data. In this initial phase, a total of 33 types of information will be recorded, including building status, usage, drinking water availability, toilet facilities, electricity, cooking fuel, and other amenities. Alongside residential buildings, details of temples, dharamshalas, hotels, shops, and other institutions are being compiled.
Second Phase in February 2027
The enumeration of individuals is scheduled for February 2027 as part of the second phase. All enumerators and supervisors will carry authorized identity cards. Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue) Vivek Chaturvedi emphasized that the census is the foundation for the country's development plans and urged citizens to provide accurate information. He assured that all data collected is strictly confidential and that no one is asked for bank account details, OTPs, or other financial information.
