Kanpur Smart City Project to Deploy 65 CCTV Cameras for Traffic Management
In a significant move to bolster urban traffic control, the Kanpur Smart City initiative is set to install 65 new CCTV cameras at crucial intersections across the city. This project, with an estimated budget of Rs 35 crore, aims to enhance surveillance and streamline traffic flow in key areas.
Meeting Details and Strategic Planning
The plan was unveiled by the Smart City nodal officer during a high-level meeting presided over by Municipal Commissioner Arpit Upadhyaya. The session concentrated on developing comprehensive traffic diversion strategies, mobility planning, and optimizing parking facilities near Metro stations.
The nodal officer confirmed that a detailed proposal has been prepared for the installation of cameras at 65 new crossings. Commissioner Upadhyaya directed that the list of identified locations be forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) for immediate follow-up and implementation.
Traffic Management and Infrastructure Enhancements
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Kapil Dev emphasized that both short-term and long-term traffic management plans will be submitted to relevant departments to ensure prioritized execution. These plans incorporate essential provisions such as zebra crossings, road markings, and the application of durable thermoplastic paint to improve road safety and visibility.
Mobility Plan Presentation by RITES
During the meeting, RITES, a government-nominated institution based in New Delhi, presented a comprehensive detailed project report on the city's mobility plan. The presentation covered critical aspects including traffic management measures, parking arrangements near Metro stations, Metro connectivity, and proposed link roads designed to connect various parts of the city more efficiently.
Municipal Commissioner Upadhyaya instructed that the mobility plan be shared with all concerned departments to facilitate better preparedness for upcoming review meetings, ensuring coordinated efforts in urban development.
Addressing Encroachment Issues
In a related development, the executive engineer of the National Highways division of the Public Works Department highlighted a pressing concern: several Metro stations are situated along national highways where encroachments have become a significant problem. He stressed the urgent need for the removal of these illegal structures to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.
Commissioner Upadhyaya directed officials to complete necessary formalities after identifying encroachments and assured full support from the municipal corporation for anti-encroachment drives, reinforcing the city's commitment to maintaining order and accessibility.
