The Karnataka Cabinet has given the green light for the acquisition of 7,400 acres of land for the ambitious Bidadi township project, which is estimated to cost Rs 18,000 crore. This approval marks a significant step forward for the long-pending initiative, as it clears the path for critical formalities such as issuing the final notification and distributing compensation to landowners. These prerequisites are essential before any groundwork can commence on the project.
Project Background
The Bidadi township project, envisioned as a satellite town near Bengaluru, aims to decongest the city by providing integrated residential, commercial, and industrial zones. The project has been in the pipeline for several years, facing delays due to land acquisition hurdles and legal challenges. With the Cabinet's approval, the state government can now proceed with the final stages of land procurement.
Next Steps
Following the Cabinet clearance, the government will issue the final notification under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act. This will be followed by the distribution of compensation to affected landowners. Once these steps are completed, the actual development work, including infrastructure creation and plot allocation, is expected to begin.
The project is expected to boost economic activity in the region, create employment opportunities, and provide modern amenities to residents. It is also seen as a model for planned urban development in Karnataka.
