Kerala Cabinet Grants Rs 10 Lakh to Valparai Accident Victims

The Kerala state cabinet, in its meeting on Saturday, decided to extend financial assistance to the families of the victims of the Valparai accident. The cabinet resolved to grant Rs 10 lakh each to the families of victims who did not have insurance coverage.

Details of the Assistance

Nine persons lost their lives when a vehicle carrying teachers and staff from Government UP School at Pang in Malappuram, along with some of their family members, plunged off a ghat road. The Chief Minister's Office communicated that Rs 10 lakh each will be provided to the families of five deceased individuals who were not covered by insurance. The other deceased teachers had insurance coverage.

The Chief Minister's Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) will disburse Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased school bus driver Naushad Ali, cook Sajid, Rukhiya, Shakeela, and student Muhammad Hisham. Additionally, the government will cover the medical expenses of Muhammad Shahad, son of a deceased teacher; Masneen, daughter of another teacher; and the vehicle's driver, Muhammad Fahis. For those with insurance coverage, if there are additional medical expenses beyond the insurance amount, those costs will be borne by the CMDRF, as decided at the cabinet meeting.

Pay Commission Posts

The cabinet also approved an order to create 14 additional posts for the smooth functioning of the 12th Pay Commission.
