Khandait Reappointed Nagpur Electricity Lokpal for Vidarbha

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has reinstated senior power sector expert Bhalchandra Khandait as the Nagpur Electricity Lokpal. This key appointment grants him jurisdiction over the expansive Vidarbha and Marathwada regions, where he will be the primary authority for resolving electricity consumer grievances.

A Storied Career in the Power Sector

Bhalchandra Khandait brings a formidable 35 years of experience in the electricity domain to this crucial role. Hailing from Sangadi village in Bhandara district's Sakoli taluka, his professional journey began on August 23, 1989, as a junior engineer at the Navargaon distribution centre in Chandrapur, which was part of the erstwhile Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB).

Through dedication and expertise, Khandait climbed the ranks, holding significant positions including Executive Engineer in Nagpur district. He later served as Superintendent Engineer and Chief Engineer at the Mumbai headquarters of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).

Instrumental Leadership in Rural Electrification

His tenure as the Nagpur regional director of MSEDCL was marked by substantial contributions. Khandait played a crucial role in rolling out new power connections and executing electrification works across Vidarbha. His efforts were pivotal in reaching some of the most remote and challenging terrains within Gadchiroli district.

Later, as the Director (Projects) for MSEDCL, his leadership was instrumental in expediting numerous state and central government power projects and schemes, accelerating infrastructure development across Maharashtra.

Steering Consumer Grievance Redressal

Following his retirement from the post of MSEDCL director, Khandait was first appointed to the position of Nagpur Electricity Lokpal. After the successful completion of his initial term, MERC has reappointed him to the post, demonstrating confidence in his capabilities.

In his capacity as Lokpal, his core responsibility is to address and resolve consumer complaints related to electricity services in the region. This reappointment underscores the regulatory body's focus on leveraging deep institutional knowledge and proven leadership to enhance consumer satisfaction and service efficiency in the power sector.
