Krishnagiri: More than 50 women from Kudimenahalli village in Kudimenahalli panchayat, near Pochampally, staged a protest on Wednesday by blocking the Agaram Road with empty pots. The demonstration was against the failure to supply drinking water for the past three months.
Water Crisis Affects Hundreds of Families
The village is home to over 300 families. Residents claimed that no drinking water had been provided from either the Thenpennai River or the Hogenakkal integrated drinking water scheme during this period. J Lakshmi, a villager, stated, "While panchayat officials promised to take steps to provide drinking water after the election, they did not keep their word."
Road Blockade Causes Traffic Disruption
The road blockade brought traffic to a standstill on the Pochampally-Krishnagiri stretch for about an hour. Upon receiving an alert, Parur police arrived at the scene and held talks with the protesting women. The authorities assured them that steps would be taken to provide drinking water by Thursday. Following this assurance, the protesters ended their road roko and dispersed, allowing traffic to resume on the stretch.
