The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) successfully completed repair works on its main pipeline at Karingachira on Friday night, restoring water supply to the Tripunithura municipality that had been disrupted due to the repair. Originally scheduled to be completed by Sunday, the agency managed to finish the work within 24 hours and resume supply earlier than planned.
Details of the Repair Work
According to KWA officials, a leak was detected in the main pipeline that transports water from the pumphouse at Karingachira to Tripunithura town. Although the leak was identified nearly a fortnight ago, locating its exact point proved challenging as the pipeline passes under railway lines in the area. This made it difficult to pinpoint the precise location of the leak. However, after identifying the specific area, KWA used a clamp to plug the leak. Officials stated that if it had been a major leak, the repair work would have taken longer.
Upcoming Maintenance at Aluva Plant
In a related development, KWA has announced plans to shut down its water treatment plant at Aluva for annual maintenance on May 13. This shutdown will disrupt water supply to several areas, including the Kochi corporation limits, Aluva, Kalamassery, Eloor, and Thrikkakara municipalities, as well as the panchayats of Edathala, Keezhmadu, Choornikkara, Cheranellore, Mulavukad, Elamkunnappuzha, and Njarackal. KWA officials have informed the public about the scheduled maintenance and the resulting water supply interruptions.
