Lucknow: Public participation is essential to make Lucknow the country's number one city in sanitation, said state urban development minister, AK Sharma, on Wednesday while chairing a review meeting on Swachh Survekshan 2026 at Sangam Auditorium.
Focus on Achieving Top Spot
The minister said that Lucknow had improved its standing in sanitation, but officials must now focus on achieving the top spot. He instructed officials to ensure that no garbage heaps remain visible anywhere in the city and asked them to resolve sewage-related complaints on priority.
Special Sanitation Drives
He also directed the civic body to conduct special sanitation drives around hospitals, hotels and commercial areas. Officials were asked to expedite renovation work in schools and strengthen the public grievance redressal system.
Mohalla Sabhas and Dustbins
Sharma asked corporators to organise mohalla sabhas in their wards and directed them to ensure installation of dustbins at commercial establishments. Mayor Sushma Kharkwal said the civic body was continuing awareness campaigns across the city to improve sanitation standards.
