Senior Urban Development Official Collapses During Official Briefing
Lucknow Smart City Limited's general manager Ajay Kumar Singh passed away on Thursday after suffering a devastating heart attack during an official meeting at his Lalbagh office. The 65-year-old civil servant was conducting a session with trainee IAS officers when the medical emergency occurred.
The Fateful Meeting and Medical Emergency
Singh was actively engaged in explaining the intricacies of the smart city control room, municipal operations, and public grievance-redressal systems to a delegation of IAS officer trainees. After delivering a comprehensive 30-minute briefing, he returned to his private chamber around midday.
Shortly after settling into his chair, Singh experienced severe chest pain on the left side and began showing signs of extreme restlessness. Office staff immediately administered first aid and emergency medication, but when his condition failed to improve, they rushed him to a private hospital in Mahanagar.
Hospital Treatment and Brave Battle
Medical professionals at the hospital conducted an ECG that confirmed Singh had suffered a heart attack. Doctors sought permission to perform an angiography procedure, which the conscious Singh personally approved. Medical teams successfully inserted a stent during the emergency procedure.
Despite the initial intervention, the veteran administrator suffered two additional heart attacks during treatment. His condition continued to deteriorate throughout the afternoon, and despite exhaustive medical efforts, he passed away in the evening hours.
Distinguished Career and Lasting Legacy
Ajay Kumar Singh, a resident of Vishal Khand in Gomtinagar, had built an impressive career in urban development spanning several decades. Before his role as general manager of Lucknow Smart City Limited, he served as chief engineer at the Lucknow Development Authority, where he oversaw numerous significant projects.
Even after retirement, Singh continued to contribute to Lucknow's urban transformation through his smart city leadership position. His sudden demise has sent shockwaves through the municipal administration circles, with colleagues remembering his dedication and expertise.
Additional municipal commissioner Lalit Kumar described the incident as extremely tragic, while Lucknow Smart City CEO Gaurav Kumar called Singh's passing an irreparable loss to the smart city project and everyone who collaborated with him.
The 65-year-old leaves behind his wife and son, along with a legacy of substantial contributions to Lucknow's urban infrastructure development that will continue to benefit citizens for years to come.
