In a significant move to bolster the city's water infrastructure, Ludhiana's civic and political leadership inaugurated a crucial new pipeline project on Friday. The initiative is designed to tackle water supply challenges and ensure a sustainable future for residents.
Leadership Inaugurates Key Infrastructure Project
Mayor Inderjit Kaur, alongside Ludhiana East legislator Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal, officially launched the construction of a 1.2-kilometer water pipeline in the Subhash Nagar area. The event marks a pivotal step in a larger mission to provide reliable, potable water to the city's inhabitants through a major canal-based supply system.
Funding and Scale of the Ambitious Plan
The newly launched pipeline, valued at Rs 1.08 crore, is not a standalone effort. It forms an integral part of the first phase of a massive, multi-funded programme. This phase is backed by financial support from international institutions like the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
Officials have connected this pipeline project to a broader vision. They state it will integrate with a new world-class water treatment plant currently under construction in Bilga village, located near Sahnewal. The overall first-phase investment for Ludhiana's water overhaul is substantial, totalling a staggering Rs 1,300 crore. This funding is being channeled into deploying additional overhead reservoirs and expanding the pipeline network across various city zones.
A Commitment to Sustainable Development
During the launch, Mayor Kaur and MLA Grewal emphasized the Punjab government's dedicated focus on building infrastructure that directly benefits the people. In a joint statement, they articulated their administration's core principle, stating, "Our focus remains on quality projects for sustainable development."
This project underscores a strategic shift towards long-term, people-centric solutions. By securing reliable water access, the initiative aims to improve public health, ease daily living, and support the city's continued growth.
