Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Bags Prestigious Smart City Water Award
The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Ludhiana has achieved a significant milestone by securing the Best Smart City Water Initiative Award at the Global Sustainability and Innovation Awards 2026, held in New Delhi. This accolade recognizes the civic body's innovative canal-based water supply project, which is set to revolutionize the city's water management system.
Award Ceremony and Recognition
The award was presented by former Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Durga Shankar Mishra, during a ceremony organized by the Earth Water Foundation. On behalf of the Municipal Corporation, MC Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar received the honor, with Superintending Engineer Parul Goyal also in attendance. Mayor Inderjit Kaur and MC Commissioner Neeru Katyal Gupta expressed immense pride in this achievement, highlighting it as a moment of great honor for the city and its officials.

Funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), this project aims to supply treated surface water to households across Ludhiana. The initiative is currently in its first phase and involves the establishment of a world-class water treatment plant at Bilga village near Sahnewal.
