Ludhiana: Three consecutive stormy nights have severely disrupted the city's electrical grid, leading to widespread blackouts, damage to household appliances, and an estimated ₹3.5 crore in infrastructure damage.
The destructive weather struck the region late last night, toppling electricity poles, destroying transformers, and severing high-tension cables. The worst outages were reported in Civil Lines, Deep Nagar, Salem Tabri, and the Gill Road corridor.
Residents in Salem Tabri experienced severe voltage fluctuations that ruined electrical appliances, while others received emergency alerts indicating that power restoration would not occur until early morning.
Many residents criticized the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for persistent systemic grid failures. “The area has been facing the same failures for three days,” said Deep Nagar resident Harsh. “We need a permanent solution.”
PSPCL officials defended their emergency response, stating that although infrastructural losses were severe, field crews restored power to most affected areas within three hours of the initial storm damage.
