Mandya DC Orders STP Upgrades by August End to Protect Lake

Mandya: Deputy Commissioner Kumara on Friday directed officials to complete the upgrade works of sewage treatment plants (STPs) by the end of August to prevent untreated wastewater from entering the Guttalu-Yattagadahalli lake in Mandya taluk. Speaking at a review meeting held at the DC’s office, he addressed the progress of STP upgrades at Guttalu and Chikkegowdanadoddi, along with pending underground drainage pipeline works across the city.

The DC noted that the Upa Lokayukta previously inspected the sites and registered a voluntary complaint regarding sewage flow into lakes. After this, the government is investing Rs 30 crore from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) compensation fund to upgrade the STPs at Guttalu (9.52 MLD) and Chikkegowdanadoddi (8.90 MLD). In Maddur, a decentralised unit for Chamanahalli Ashraya Layout is planned with a Rs 115 lakh budget, with design and DPR stages completed and tenders finalised. Similarly, in Nagamangala, a Rs 25-crore project is under way to rejuvenate existing drainage systems and STPs.

The DC urged immediate commencement of work as tender processes are complete. Directions were also issued to Bellur TP to deploy suction machines for FSTP management and to Pandavapura and Malavalli local bodies to initiate work on pending “missing links” in their drainage networks.
