Mandya's VV Road to Transform into International Standard Vehicle-Free Zone

In a significant urban development move, Mandya's VV Road is set to be developed as a vehicle-free zone designed to meet international standards. This ambitious project aims to benefit pedestrians and boost local businesses by creating a safer, more accessible urban environment.

Budget Presentation and Infrastructure Plans

Deputy Commissioner Kumar, who serves as administrator of the Mandya City Council (MCC), presented the revised budget for the financial year 2025-26 along with the estimated budget for 2026–27. The directorate of Urban Land Transport will provide crucial assistance to the council in implementing the vehicle-free zone on VV Road.

The MCC has proposed a comprehensive budget of Rs 123.6 crore focused on strengthening civic infrastructure, improving public amenities, and promoting environmental development across the city. Property tax remains the primary revenue source, with an estimated collection of Rs 20.9 crore.

Traffic Circle Modernization and Road Development

Several prominent traffic circles throughout Mandya are scheduled for modernization, including:

  • Sugar Factory Circle
  • Hosahalli Circle
  • Holalu Circle
  • Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar Circle

Additionally, Bannur Road is planned for development as a model road featuring dedicated pedestrian walkways and cycling tracks, further enhancing the city's pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

Green Mandya Initiative and Park Rejuvenation

The council has proposed an innovative "Green Mandya" initiative aimed at significantly enhancing the city's greenery and aesthetic appeal. As part of this program, decorative saplings will be planted along the Mysuru-Bengaluru main road corridor to beautify the cityscape.

Under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, several key parks will undergo rejuvenation, including:

  1. Mahatma Gandhi Park
  2. BVK Layout Park
  3. Halahalli Park

New Recreational Spaces for Families

Plans are also in place to create a children's playground near Gandhi Park and install a toy train in the park opposite the Deputy Commissioner's office. These developments will provide new recreational spaces for families while improving Mandya's overall urban environment and quality of life for residents.

The comprehensive development plan represents a holistic approach to urban transformation, balancing infrastructure improvements with environmental sustainability and community well-being. These initiatives position Mandya as a forward-thinking city prioritizing pedestrian safety, green spaces, and modern urban planning principles.
