Manesar Municipal Corporation to Establish Designated Street Vending Zones
The Municipal Corporation of Manesar (MCM) has announced plans to designate specific street vending zones within its jurisdiction to regulate businesses operating from carts and stalls. This initiative aims to bring order to the informal sector while supporting local vendors.
Inspection and Provisional Site Identification
Commissioner Pradeep Singh, Joint Commissioner Lokesh Yadav, and District Project Officer Mahender Singh recently conducted inspections across several areas as part of this planning exercise. Officials have provisionally identified 10 locations for the proposed vending zones.
The shortlisted sites include:
- Garhi village
- Harsaru
- Manesar
- Kasan
- Bhangraula
- Sector 83
- Nakhraula
- Naurangpur
- Near Hayatpur Chowk on Pataudi Road
Strategic Planning for Safety and Traffic Management
Officials emphasized that these zones have been strategically planned away from main roads to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for both vendors and commuters. Commissioner Pradeep Singh stated, "Street vendors are an important part of the city's economy, but unregulated vending on roads obstructs traffic and poses safety risks. The creation of vending zones would provide vendors with designated spaces to operate."
Comprehensive Amenities and Additional Features
The civic body has committed to providing basic facilities in all designated zones, including electricity, water supply, toilets, and tin sheds, along with proper cleanliness arrangements. Additionally, MCM plans to develop night markets and community markets within these zones to enhance their utility and appeal.
District Project Officer Mahender Singh highlighted that products made by women from self-help groups—such as handicrafts, pickles, papads, and soaps—would be sold at these locations. "This will economically empower women and promote local products," he explained, underscoring the initiative's broader social and economic benefits.
Future Expansion and Implementation Timeline
Officials noted that the number of vending zones could be increased in the future based on demand and community needs. However, no specific timeline has been announced for the initiative, as the proposal is still under consideration by the municipal authorities.
Previous Initiatives and Maintenance Transfer
In 2023, the civic body had identified 10 street vending zones in IMT sectors. The maintenance of these zones has since been transferred to HSIIDC (Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation). Amenities such as sewerage, water supply, roads, street lights, and green belts in these IMT sectors are now managed by the corporation, indicating a precedent for such regulatory measures.
This new initiative represents a continued effort by the Municipal Corporation of Manesar to formalize street vending, support local entrepreneurship, and enhance urban infrastructure in the region.
