Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday presented the Governor’s Unit Citation 2026 to 11 units of central armed forces and Manipur Police in recognition of their exceptional service in the state. The investiture ceremony was held at MSFDS, Palace Compound in Imphal.
Recipients of the Citation
The citations were awarded to the following units: 19 Garhwal Rifles, 17 Assam Rifles, 38 Assam Rifles, 40 Assam Rifles, 2 Mahar Regiment, 25 BRTF, Kakching District Police, Senapati District Police, Churachandpur District Police, 10 BSF, and 143 CRPF. These units were honored for their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Manipur.
Chief Minister’s Remarks
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh addressed the gathering, noting that since the unrest began on May 3, 2023, numerous incidents have occurred. He highlighted that security forces rescued approximately 47,000 civilians from both communities. Singh emphasized that while security forces are crucial for a peaceful atmosphere, public cooperation through dialogue and collective efforts is essential to restore normalcy.
Governor’s Address
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla praised the security forces for their role in restoring stability in the state. He stressed that their coordinated efforts, especially after the 2023 unrest, helped maintain law and order and rebuild public confidence. The Governor explained that the Unit Citation is awarded on a rotational basis after due consultation, recognizing collective excellence, discipline, and commitment in areas such as counterinsurgency operations, humanitarian assistance, and internal security.
Bhalla underscored the link between peace and development, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation between security forces and civil administration to ensure long-term stability and progress in Manipur.
