MCG Enforcement Drive Targets Illegal Water and Sewerage Connections in Gurgaon
In a significant crackdown on unauthorized utility usage, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) conducted a targeted enforcement drive on Thursday. The operation focused on the Daulatabad industrial area and Surat Nagar, where officials identified and disconnected a total of 58 illegal drinking water and sewerage connections.
Details of the Disconnections and Enforcement Action
The enforcement action resulted in the disconnection of one particularly large illegal bulk connection serving approximately 50 units, along with eight other unauthorized connections. Most of these illegal hookups were linked to industrial and commercial establishments operating in the area. Officials noted that this was not the first such action in these localities, as some users had previously reconnected illegal lines after earlier enforcement drives.
MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya emphasized the corporation's commitment to continuing these enforcement measures across the entire city. "I appeal to all residents and business owners to obtain connections only through the legitimate process," Dahiya stated. "We encourage everyone to take advantage of the corporation's newly introduced online system for applying for drinking water and sewerage connections."
Streamlined Online Application System Introduced
The civic body has recently implemented an online module designed to simplify the process of applying for legitimate water and sewerage connections. This system is available through MCG's official website and represents a significant modernization of municipal services.
According to officials, the new online system allows applicants to obtain connections using their property ID along with identity proof such as Aadhaar card or voter ID. This digital approach eliminates the need for multiple visits to civic offices, making the entire process faster, more transparent, and considerably more citizen-friendly.
Broader Implications and Future Enforcement
The enforcement drive highlights MCG's ongoing efforts to regulate municipal services and ensure proper utility management in Gurgaon. By targeting illegal connections, the corporation aims to prevent revenue loss, ensure equitable distribution of resources, and maintain infrastructure integrity.
Commissioner Dahiya's warning about continued enforcement across the city suggests that similar drives may be conducted in other areas where illegal connections have been reported. The combination of strict enforcement action with the introduction of a user-friendly online application system represents a dual approach to addressing the issue of unauthorized utility connections in the growing urban center.
