MCG Gurgaon Tenders Rs 6.42 Crore for Sanitation Gear

Gurgaon Municipal Corporation Initiates Major Sanitation Equipment Hiring Process

The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has officially commenced the procurement process for hiring essential sanitation machinery, including tractor-trolleys and earthmovers, to bolster cleanliness operations across the city. This initiative, launched on Thursday, is projected to incur an estimated expenditure of Rs 6.42 crore for a duration of one year.

Strategic Move to Ensure Uninterrupted Sanitation Services

According to municipal officials, this decisive action is strategically timed ahead of the impending expiration of contracts with current contractors on March 15. The primary objective is to guarantee that critical public sanitation functions—such as road sweeping and waste collection from public spaces, thoroughfares, and vacant plots—continue without any interruption.

The machinery acquired through this tender will be directly integrated with the corporation's in-house sanitation workforce, comprising 4,904 workers, to enhance garbage lifting and road cleaning efficiency.

Zone-Wise Financial Allocation and Tender Details

MCG has adopted a structured, zone-wise approach for this tender process. The estimated hiring costs have been meticulously broken down as follows:

  • Zone 1: Rs 1.7 crore
  • Zone 2: Rs 1.05 crore
  • Zone 3: Rs 2.4 crore
  • Zone 4: Rs 1.3 crore

These tenders have been formally floated, inviting bids from eligible contractors to supply and operate the required equipment.

Addressing the Critical Equipment Shortage

This procurement drive addresses a significant equipment deficit faced by the civic body. Currently, Gurgaon operates approximately 400 vehicles for door-to-door waste collection and only 18 mechanised sweeping machines. This falls drastically short of the actual requirement, which stands at 42 such machines.

In response, MCG has proposed a capital investment to purchase an additional 20 large and four medium mechanised sweepers, citing the availability of necessary funds. This proposal aligns with the corporation's persistent advocacy for more equipment, as reiterated in its annual action plan submitted to Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav in December of the previous year.

Long-Term Planning and Contractual Extensions

The annual plan highlighted that over 1,400 kilometers of city roads are suitable for mechanised sweeping, identifying the equipment shortage as a major operational constraint. In a related development from January, the Haryana Urban Local Bodies Department sanctioned an extension for six agencies engaged in manual road sweeping.

This extension, valid until March 31, 2026, and covering the period from September 1, 2025, involves a substantial cost of Rs 127 crore. These agencies were originally hired in September 2023 under a two-year contract, underscoring the ongoing efforts to maintain sanitation standards through both manual and mechanised means.
