The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has called upon Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to extend their full cooperation in the upcoming Census 2027 survey. In an official letter, MCG Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Pradeep Dahiya urged RWAs to allow census personnel to enter residential premises for data collection after verifying their identities.
Legal Implications for Obstruction
Directions have been issued emphasizing that no unnecessary obstruction, delay, or hindrance of any kind should be created in the discharge of census work. The order cited Section 11(1)(AA) of the Census Act, 1948, which empowers authorities to take legal action, including imprisonment, against individuals who obstruct the census process.
Meeting on Census Progress
Commissioner Dahiya convened a meeting on Sunday to review the progress of census operations. During the meeting, it was revealed that over 500 supervisors and enumerators were found absent from duty and training sessions. Consequently, it was decided that notices would be issued to such employees under the Census Act, and legal action would be taken against those who fail to respond.
Directives to Departments and Institutions
All departments and institutions have been directed to ensure their employees join the census work immediately. Absent supervisors and enumerators are required to attend training from May 5 to May 7, 2026. Officials also announced the establishment of grievance cells for each zone to review work daily, conduct field inspections every Thursday, and submit reports every Friday.
Census Management Cell
A census management cell has been constituted at the commissioner’s office, chaired by the commissioner himself. This cell will ensure monitoring and coordination during census work, as well as resolution of complaints. Commissioner Dahiya emphasized, “Census is an important foundation for the country’s development and formulation of plans. So, all RWAs and residents are expected to adopt a cooperative attitude.”
The MCG’s proactive measures aim to streamline the census process and ensure accurate data collection, which is vital for policy-making and resource allocation. Residents are urged to cooperate with census officials and verify their credentials before granting access.
