In a significant move to address long-standing grievances, the office of the Principal Accountant General (Audit & Entitlement) in Meghalaya organized a dedicated Pension & Provident Fund Adalat in Shillong on Wednesday. This event was a key component of the ongoing Audit Week 2025 Outreach Programme, aiming to provide relief to numerous stakeholders across the state who have been awaiting the settlement of their dues.
A Platform for Collaborative Resolution
The Adalat was specifically designed as a focused platform to tackle systemic delays that have plagued the timely disbursement of provident fund and pension claims. Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), departmental representatives, and district-level officials converged to work collaboratively on resolving these pending cases. An official present at the event highlighted that the initiative's core purpose was to bring all concerned parties together to find solutions and clear the backlog efficiently.
Leadership's Call for Efficient Settlement
Inaugurating the Adalat, L Hangsing, the Principal Accountant General of Meghalaya, urged participants to make the most of this opportunity. He emphasized the moral imperative of ensuring that no beneficiary is left waiting for their rightful financial entitlements. "We must utilise this platform to clear all pending pension and provident fund cases efficiently," Hangsing stated, setting a clear objective for the proceedings.
Digital Transformation on the Horizon
In a major announcement that points towards a streamlined future, Hangsing revealed that an online submission system for pension and General Provident Fund (GPF) cases is currently under development. This digital shift is already partially in motion, with authorities now issuing pensions and GPF benefits digitally through dedicated portals. Beneficiaries can access these through the e-Pension and e-GPF portals, as well as via DigiLocker, marking a significant step towards transparency and faster service delivery.
The Adalat represents a proactive approach by the state's audit and accounts department to bridge the gap between government processes and citizen welfare. By combining immediate redressal mechanisms with a planned digital overhaul, the initiative seeks to permanently reduce delays and ensure that retirees and employees receive their funds without unnecessary hardship.
