District Minister Laxmi R Hebbalkar has directed officials to implement all necessary precautionary measures to prevent loss of life, property, or inconvenience to the public due to heavy rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season. Chairing the KDP meeting at the deputy commissioner's office in Rajathadri on Saturday, the minister emphasized that excessive rainfall should not disrupt daily life.
Infrastructure and Safety Precautions
Hebbalkar instructed that rain-damaged roads be repaired promptly to avoid transportation disruptions. She called for precautions near footbridges and culverts to prevent accidents. The forest department was directed to begin work immediately to prevent power disruptions during the monsoon. Officials were also told to remove dangerous trees and restore electricity quickly if poles fall during heavy rain.
School and College Repairs
Reviewing repair works in educational institutions, the minister noted that 186 projects worth Rs 430 crore had been undertaken, but 45 remain incomplete. She ordered their completion before the monsoon onset. She also reviewed the Midday Meal scheme, instructing officials to ensure uninterrupted meal provision to students.
Health Preparedness
Highlighting increased disease risks during the rainy season, Hebbalkar directed health officials to raise public awareness and maintain adequate medicine stocks at all primary health centres. Addressing the shortage of gynaecologists at Karkala taluk hospital, she noted a decline in deliveries from over 126 to just five or six. She instructed the appointment of specialist doctors or agreements with private hospitals to provide healthcare services.
Agricultural Support
With agricultural activities expected to rise during the monsoon, the minister instructed officials to maintain sufficient stocks of seeds and fertilisers and distribute them according to farmers' needs. She stressed that government schemes for farmers must not remain confined to records but should reach them directly at their doorstep.
