Rajya Sabha member K Vanlalvena, the sole representative from Mizoram, conducted a two-day inspection of a crucial border road project this week. He visited the Thingsai-Bualpui-Saisihchhuah-Pangkhua-Sangau (TBSPS) road along the Myanmar border on Thursday and Friday. The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is currently constructing this important infrastructure.
Road Construction Halted Due to Compensation Issues
Vanlalvena revealed that the BRO had discontinued work on the Saisihchhuah to Pangkhua section during 2021 and 2023. Officials cited non-payment of compensation as the reason for the stoppage. Consequently, the Ministry of Development of North East Region (DoNER) withdrew an allocated sum of Rs 66 crore.
MP's Pressure Leads to Resumption Order
After consistent pressure from the MP, the Ministry of Defence intervened. They ordered the resumption of road construction from the later part of 2024. This decision marks a significant victory for local infrastructure development.
Site Visits and Future Plans
Accompanied by BRO Executive Engineer Vikash Kumar Singh, Vanlalvena inspected multiple sites. He visited the road construction from Bualpui linking to the Myanmar border rivers Tiau and Chhimtuipui. The MP also reviewed the proposed construction of a bridge over the Chhimtuipui river. This bridge will link Bualpui and Pangkhua, enhancing connectivity.
Compensation Payments to Expedite Work
Engineer Singh provided key updates during the inspection. He informed the MP that construction between Pangkhua and Saisihchhuah will commence soon. This start depends on the payment of compensation to landowners along the proposed road. Singh assured that all compensation claims by Pangkhua villagers will be settled within two months.
The MP's proactive engagement highlights the importance of this border road. It aims to improve connectivity and security in the region. Local residents eagerly await the project's completion.
