Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Declare Holiday for Educational Institutions on July 6
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange alert warning for Mumbai, predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds on Monday, July 6, 2026. In response, all government, municipal, and private schools and colleges in Mumbai have been declared closed for the day. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed the announcement via social media, stating: "In view of this, all Government, Municipal, Private Schools and Colleges in Mumbai have been declared a holiday for tomorrow."
Navi Mumbai Follows Suit with Similar Closure
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) also declared a holiday for all schools—regardless of medium or management—within its jurisdiction on July 6. The NMMC posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Due to heavy rainfall, holiday for schools in Navi Mumbai on July 6 (for schools of all mediums and all managements)." The decision aims to ensure the safety of students and staff amid expected severe weather conditions.
Orange Alert Details and Precautionary Measures
An Orange alert indicates that authorities should be prepared for adverse weather. The IMD has forecast very heavy rainfall at isolated places with wind speeds reaching 40-50 km/h. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay indoors, and follow updates from local authorities. The BMC and NMMC have urged citizens to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents.
