Nagpur Kicks Off Preparatory Training for Census of India 2027
In a significant step toward one of the nation's largest administrative exercises, Nagpur commenced the countdown to the Census of India 2027 on Monday. Over 250 officials assembled at Zilla Niyojan Bhavan to undergo the inaugural phase of training, marking the formal start of preparations for the upcoming houselisting phase.
Collector Emphasizes National Importance of Census Data
Addressing the inaugural session, Collector Vipin Itankar underscored the critical role of census data in public welfare planning. He urged all participants to engage actively and prioritize their assigned responsibilities. "The census is a national undertaking, and the data collected is crucial for implementing various welfare schemes. All tasks must be carried out with diligence and priority," Itankar stated, highlighting how the information gathered forms the backbone of strategic development initiatives.
Structured Training Program for Field Execution
The three-day training program, scheduled from March 23 to 25, is designed for field trainers and charge officers who will anchor the census execution across both rural and urban areas. Key objectives include:
- Familiarizing participants with field procedures and operational protocols.
- Training on digital data collection systems, including the use of specialized census platforms such as the CMMS and HLBC portals.
- Ensuring uniformity and accuracy in data collection through standardized methods.
The sessions are led by master trainers who recently completed state-level training in Pune on March 14 and 15. Officials from the Directorate of Census Operations, Maharashtra, are conducting the program, with participants comprising district and city census officers, additional charge officers, clerical staff, and technical assistants.
Administrative Framework and Deployment Plans
For administrative efficiency, the rural segment has been divided into 43 units spanning 13 tehsils, 29 nagar panchayats, and the Nagpur Cantonment area. Each unit will operate under a charge officer responsible for planning and supervision. Within the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) limits, the exercise is structured into 10 units aligned with zonal divisions.
Cascade Model for Widespread Training
The training follows a cascade model, where these trained officials will subsequently train supervisors and enumerators at the local level. This approach ensures a trickle-down effect of knowledge and skills. The district is projected to deploy over 4,500 enumerators in rural areas, while the NMC will engage approximately 6,000 personnel for urban coverage. These teams will conduct extensive door-to-door visits to collect detailed data on housing conditions, amenities, and basic infrastructure.
Critical Step Toward Full-Scale Implementation
Officials emphasized that this training marks a pivotal step in ensuring the accuracy and uniformity of data collection as the district progresses toward the full-scale implementation of the census exercise. By laying a strong foundation now, Nagpur aims to facilitate a smooth and efficient census process in 2027, ultimately supporting national planning and welfare schemes with reliable demographic insights.
