Nagpur Prepares for Extensive Power Shutdown on January 28
The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has announced a significant planned power outage affecting large sections of Nagpur on Sunday, January 28. This extensive shutdown is necessary for the utility company to execute critical maintenance activities and network enhancement works across multiple divisions of the city.
Critical Infrastructure Upgrades Driving the Shutdown
According to MSEDCL officials, the power interruption is essential for several technical operations aimed at improving the reliability and safety of the electricity distribution network. The planned works include conversion of overhead power lines into underground cables, installation of new AB switches, re-jumpering operations, underground cable connectivity enhancements, and shifting of high-tension lines. The utility has appealed to consumers for cooperation during this period, emphasizing that these upgrades will ultimately benefit the city's power infrastructure.
Detailed Division-Wise Outage Schedule
Mahal Division: Power supply will be suspended between 10am and 1pm in LIG, MIG and HIG Colony areas. A longer outage from 10am to 2pm is planned for Kashi Nagar, Thawre School area, Parvati Nagar, Swaraj Apartment, Chandan Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Vakilpeth, Krida Chowk, Rachana Vatika, Umang Society, Friends Society, Dhadiwal Layout, Saket Nagar, Narendra Nagar, Vijayanand Society, Dhobi Nagar, PMG Society, Saikrupa Society and the 85 Plot area.
Congress Nagar Division: Several localities will experience outages at different times:
- Giripeth, Vasantrao Naik Vasahat, Gawlipura, Police Chowki and Traffic Park: 8am to 12noon
- Laxmi Nagar: 8.30am to 12.30pm
- Navjivan Colony, Gajanan Nagar, Hindustan Colony and areas around Kothari Hospital: 8am to 11am
Additional outages are scheduled at various time slots in areas including Beltarodi, Pratap Nagar, Khamla, Somalwada, Rajiv Nagar and Trimurti Nagar.
Civil Lines Division: Electricity supply will be interrupted from 10am to 3pm in Gandhi Layout, Teacher Colony, Surana Layout, Idgah Ground and Jafar Nagar Masjid area. Mankapur Chowk, Mankapur Old Basti and nearby areas will be affected from 8am to 11am, while several residential layouts will see outages between 9am and 12noon.
Gandhibagh Division: A shutdown from 8am to 12noon will impact multiple localities including Shahu Mohalla, Mahdi Bagh and Rajiv Gandhi Nagar.
Industrial and Substation Operations
Butibori Division: This industrial area will experience specific feeder shutdowns:
- Feeder no. 12 (K-zone): 10am to 2pm
- Feeder no. 1: 2pm to 5.30pm
Additionally, H-zone and Appeal Park substations will witness brief 10-minute outages during changeover operations as part of the maintenance schedule.

MSEDCL officials have assured residents that power supply will be restored according to the published schedule once the maintenance works are completed. The utility has requested consumers to plan their activities accordingly and cooperate with the necessary interruptions, which are designed to enhance the long-term stability and efficiency of Nagpur's electricity distribution system.
