Nashik Proposes Dedicated Traffic Coordination Committee for 2027 Kumbh Mela
The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has taken a significant step forward in preparation for the massive 2027 Kumbh Mela by formally proposing the creation of a specialized City Traffic Coordination Committee. This strategic initiative aims to address the substantial mobility challenges expected during the mega-event, which will see an enormous influx of millions of devotees converging on the sacred city.
Integrated Planning for Complex Festival Logistics
In a detailed letter addressed to both the Nashik city police commissioner and the municipal commissioner, Kumbh Mela Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the critical need for integrated planning to handle the festival's complexity. The proposed committee is designed to function as a collaborative forum, with leadership provided by the city police department and active, comprehensive support from the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The primary objective of this committee, as outlined in the official correspondence, is to align infrastructure planning with police strategies for managing the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians. This coordination is deemed essential for both the parvani (auspicious bathing) days and the non-parvani periods throughout the festival.
Clear Division of Responsibilities and Technological Integration
The proposal establishes a clear framework for responsibilities between the two key government bodies:
- The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) will be tasked with all infrastructure-related works. This includes road construction and repairs, installation of street lighting, and the placement of way-finding signage to assist pilgrims. Furthermore, the NMC will be responsible for establishing emergency access routes, developing evacuation protocols, and deploying advanced technological solutions.
