Nashik's Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council Launches Encroachment Removal Drive Ahead of Simhastha Kumbh
In a significant move to prepare for the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, the Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council (TMC) in Nashik launched a comprehensive encroachment removal drive on Sunday. This initiative is specifically designed to ensure that the streets and pathways in the temple town are completely free from any obstructions, thereby facilitating the smooth movement of the large influx of pilgrims expected during the auspicious event.
Enhancing Pilgrim and Resident Mobility
The primary objective of this drive is to ease movement, decongest key routes, and guarantee safer and more efficient pedestrian access for both devotees and local residents. Over the years, encroached structures—including temporary stalls and unauthorized shops—along critical roads and around the temple have significantly narrowed pathways. This has led to severe congestion and considerable difficulties for devotees, especially during peak periods.
It is important to note that the footfall in Trimbakeshwar during auspicious days often exceeds the town's population, and during major yatras, it multiplies several times over. The removal of these encroachments is therefore seen as a crucial step in managing this massive influx effectively.
Paving the Way for Development and the Darshan Path
Govind Jadhav, the chief officer of the Trimbakeshwar Municipal Council, emphasized that this drive is part of broader developmental works planned for the town. "This initiative has been launched in view of the developmental works to be undertaken in the town. It has been decided to get the roads and streets encroachment-free. This also paves the way for the development of the proposed Darshan Path, a critical infrastructure initiative for the upcoming Kumbh Mela," Jadhav stated.
The Darshan Path is envisioned as a key infrastructure project aimed at providing a streamlined, safe, and well-managed darshan experience for pilgrims. By clearing encroachments, the council aims to improve pathways and supporting infrastructure, ensuring a more organized and accessible environment during the Kumbh Mela.
Facing Opposition from Long-Term Stakeholders
Despite the clear benefits, the encroachment removal drive has not been without its challenges. Another council official revealed that the action is being opposed by a select number of individuals who claim to have operated their setups for many years. These stakeholders argue that their long-standing presence should grant them some leeway, but the council remains firm in its commitment to the drive, prioritizing public safety and infrastructure development over individual claims.
