In a significant move to ensure hassle-free travel for pilgrims, the top official of the Northeastern Railway (NER) conducted a thorough review of arrangements at key stations serving the ongoing Magh Mela in Prayagraj.
On-Ground Review for Pilgrim Convenience
General Manager Uday Borwankar carried out the inspection on Friday, focusing on train operations and the management of large crowds. According to Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Pankaj Kumar Singh, Borwankar visited the dedicated war room established at the Gorakhpur headquarters control office. From this central command post, he monitored the real-time situation at Prayagraj Rambag and Jhunsi railway stations, both of which are experiencing exceptionally high passenger traffic due to the massive religious gathering.
Directives for Enhanced Passenger Safety
During the assessment, the GM evaluated the existing crowd control measures in place. He issued clear instructions to the concerned officials to deploy sufficient personnel based on the actual passenger footfall. This includes an adequate number of Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff, commercial personnel, and other railway employees. The primary goal is to facilitate smooth passenger movement and minimize any inconvenience to the devotees. Borwankar also kept a close watch on live video feeds from the CCTV cameras installed at both stations to get an accurate, real-time picture of the crowd density and flow.
NER's 'Mission Zero Scrap' Yields Impressive Revenue
Alongside managing the festive rush, the Northeastern Railway zone has reported strong financial returns from its cleanliness and efficiency drive. Under the 'Mission Zero Scrap' initiative, the zone has generated substantial revenue by disposing of unused materials. Up to December 2025 in the third quarter of the financial year 2025-26, NER earned a remarkable Rs 146.19 crore from scrap disposal. The CPRO further highlighted that the month of December 2025 alone contributed Rs 22.26 crore to this total, underscoring the continued momentum of the mission.
The dual focus on operational excellence during major events and internal asset optimization reflects the railway zone's commitment to both passenger service and financial prudence.
