The review focused on a proposal to relocate all app-based and yellow-top taxi pickups to a designated area outside the immediate airport terminal vicinity. The core of the new plan involves creating a dedicated holding area for cabs approximately 2-3 kilometers from the terminal buildings. Upon landing, passengers would book their rides as usual through various mobile applications. Instead of proceeding directly to the crowded arrival pickup points, the assigned cabs would wait in this new holding zone. Passengers would then be transported to this area via shuttle services to meet their drivers and begin their onward journey.

Addressing Infrastructure and Implementation Challenges

During the review, the Chief Secretary emphasized the necessity of a robust support infrastructure to make the system viable. Key considerations included ensuring sufficient shuttle bus frequency, clear signages for passengers, and adequate facilities like shelters and seating in the proposed holding area. The meeting, attended by officials from the Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), the transport department, and traffic police, also delved into the technological integration required for seamless coordination between shuttle dispatch and cab arrival.
