Canacona Municipal Council's New Complex Set for Inauguration Next Week
In a significant development for local governance in Goa, the new complex of the Canacona Municipal Council is scheduled to be inaugurated next week. Council chairperson Laxman Pagui made this announcement on Tuesday, marking the culmination of a project that began five years ago.
Construction and Location Details
The new building complex has been constructed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) at Chaudi. This modern structure replaces the old municipal building that was demolished at the same site. The foundation stone for this ambitious project was laid half a decade ago, and it has now reached completion under the oversight of GSIDC.
Facilities and Features of the New Complex
The newly constructed municipal complex boasts a range of facilities designed to enhance administrative efficiency and public service. Key features include:
- Dedicated cabins for the chairman, vice-chairman, and chief officer.
- Special seating arrangements for councillors to facilitate smooth deliberations.
- A central auditorium with an impressive intake capacity of 1,000 people, suitable for public meetings and events.
- A council hall for official meetings and discussions.
- Separate revenue and administration sections to streamline municipal operations.
- Shops located on the ground floor, potentially generating revenue and serving the community.
Planning for the Inauguration Event
In preparation for the inauguration, a meeting was held to discuss the program details. Attendees included Chairperson Laxman Pagui, Vice-Chairperson Gandesh Madgaonkar, Chaudi ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaonkar, councillor Simon Rebello, and Rajendra Borkar, who serves as the OSD to Canacona MLA and local minister Ramesh Tawadkar. They met with municipal director Brijesh Manerikar to coordinate the event, ensuring it proceeds smoothly and reflects the importance of this new infrastructure for Canacona.
