Toll Collection on NH-66 Kozhikode Stretch to Commence This Thursday
Drivers using the Vengalam-Ramanattukara section of National Highway 66 in Kozhikode should prepare for a new toll system. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways officially announced the toll rates on January 7. Now, the authorities have completed all necessary procedures to start collecting tolls at the Olavanna toll plaza.
Key Details for Commuters
Toll collection will begin at 8 AM on Thursday. A recent trial run at the plaza went smoothly, confirming the system's readiness. The ministry published the notification in various media outlets, finalizing the launch.
Monthly Pass for Local Residents
Private car owners living within a 20-kilometer radius of the Olavanna toll plaza can benefit from a special monthly pass. Distribution of these passes starts on Tuesday. To obtain one, residents must visit the toll plaza with their vehicle's registration certificate and Aadhaar card.
The pass costs Rs 340. Holders can cross the Olavanna toll plaza an unlimited number of times within a single month. This option aims to ease the financial burden for frequent local travelers.
Payment Methods and Charges
FASTag users will receive priority during toll collection. For those opting for digital payments via UPI, an additional charge of 0.25% will apply. Cash payments, however, will incur double the standard toll rate. This structure encourages the use of electronic payment methods for faster and more efficient transactions.
Commuters should plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays and extra costs. The new toll system marks a significant step in managing traffic and funding highway maintenance in the region.
