Noida Airport CEO: Launch, Challenges, and Local Focus

The CEO of Noida International Airport (NIA) shares his excitement as the airport prepares to welcome its first passengers on Monday. He highlights the six-year journey, overcoming pandemic challenges, and the unique local focus of the terminal.

Launch Day Excitement

This is an incredibly exciting week for the entire team, who have been working towards this project for six years. We are all thrilled to welcome our first passengers on Monday.

Biggest Challenge

The project began just before the Covid-19 pandemic, which posed a significant challenge. However, the designers and government partners managed to clear this turbulence quickly and progressively.

What Sets NIA Apart

NIA aims to make passengers feel at home in northern India, particularly western Uttar Pradesh. The design, materials, food, and retail draw from the rich architectural and cultural heritage of the region. While offering international services, the airport emphasizes a deeply local experience, underpinned by Zurich Airport's 75 years of global operational expertise.

Lessons from International Airports

Zurich Airport, the promoter, has operated Switzerland's largest airport for over 75 years and 10 others worldwide. This experience has been applied to ensure the terminal is easy to navigate and processes run smoothly.

Attracting More Airlines

Initially, IndiGo and Akasa will operate from NIA, starting June 15 and 16 respectively. By July, the number of routes is expected to expand significantly, with the two airlines serving 17-18 destinations across India. The response from other airlines has been strong, reflecting confidence in the catchment area's traffic growth.

International Flights

International operations are planned to start later this year.

Employment for Project-Affected Families

Job creation and economic growth have been guiding principles from day one. The airport operates with 80-90 partner firms, each a leading Indian company. The goal is to match job seekers with the right partner based on their skills and preferences.

Public Transport Plan

NIA is working with state road transportation companies from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and others to provide bus services. App taxis, rental cars, and luxury taxis will also be available to ensure easy access for all budgets.

Pre-Launch Work

The airport is ready for operations from Monday. However, as development continues in phases, work will go on for the next 20-30 years, with new infrastructure and spaces opening for passengers.
