Noida Authority Takes Strict Action After Safety Audit Following Tragic Death
The Noida Authority has taken decisive administrative action against a sanitation contractor and one of its own officials following a comprehensive safety and sanitation review. This review was initiated after the tragic death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta in Sector 150 earlier this month, which raised serious concerns about civic upkeep and infrastructure safety in the rapidly developing area.
Spot Inspections Reveal Multiple Violations
Following a review meeting held on January 27 that identified 65 locations requiring immediate safety and cleanliness improvements, the Deputy General Manager (Civil) conducted rigorous spot inspections on Thursday. These inspections uncovered significant lapses in sanitation standards and worker deployment at critical locations.
The Authority subsequently imposed a substantial fine of Rs 2 lakh on a sanitation contractor for multiple violations including negligence, absence of workers, and substandard cleaning practices in Sector 150 and along the Noida Expressway corridor.

In an official notice issued to the project engineer of the Authority's Public Health Division-2, authorities stated that sanitation standards in the affected areas were "not in accordance with prescribed norms." The notice specifically highlighted the contractor's failure to maintain cleanliness at key locations, which reflected serious lapses in the execution of assigned work.
Inspecting officials documented that no sanitation workers were present at the designated sites despite contractual obligations requiring continuous deployment of manpower for cleaning and maintenance activities. The Authority has directed the project engineer to impose the penalty on the contractor and submit a detailed compliance report documenting corrective measures.
Health Inspector Receives Final Warning
In a separate disciplinary action, the in-charge health inspector of the Public Health Division-2 received a final warning for poor supervision and delayed arrival at inspection sites. The notice pointed out that while sanitation workers were conspicuously absent from their assigned locations, the health inspector had reached the site around 12:30 PM for inspection, which authorities termed as "serious negligence in assigned duties."
The health inspector has been directed to personally monitor sanitation operations, conduct daily field inspections starting from 7 AM, and ensure proper cleanliness standards are maintained. The notice explicitly stated that failure to comply with these directives would result in strict disciplinary action.
