Noida Authority to Lay New Sewer Lines in Five Villages to Fix Overflow
Noida Authority to Fix Sewer Overflow in Five Villages

The Noida Authority has announced plans to lay new sewer lines and establish sewage pumping stations in five villages—Barola, Sarfabad, Wazidpur, Hazipur, and Chhijarsi—to permanently resolve the recurring issue of sewage overflow. On Thursday, Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma and Noida MLA Pankaj Singh participated in foundation stone-laying ceremonies for these projects alongside Authority officials.

Key Projects and Investments

The largest project involves a 10-million-litre-per-day sewage pumping station in Barola, costing Rs 10 crore. In Chhijarsi, Rs 1.65 crore will be spent on maintaining a 1,280-metre sewer line, including pipe replacement and repair work. Wazidpur will see an investment of Rs 1.64 crore for a 1,300-metre stretch, focusing on similar repairs and replacement of rusted pipes. Additionally, Rs 1 crore has been allocated for maintaining 3,344 metres of sewer pipeline in Sarfabad.

Urgency Ahead of Monsoon

MLA Pankaj Singh emphasized that residents had flagged these issues, prompting the Authority to act. The projects carry added urgency ahead of the monsoon season, when heavy rainfall significantly increases pressure on underground networks. Damaged or undersized lines can cause sewage to mix with rainwater, leading to waterlogging and backflow into homes.

Details of Work in Each Village

  • Barola: Construction of a 10-MLD sewage pumping station at a cost of Rs 10 crore.
  • Chhijarsi: Maintenance of a 1,280-metre sewer line, pipe replacement, and repair work for Rs 1.65 crore.
  • Wazidpur: Maintenance and repair of sewer lines and replacement of old, rusted pipes along a 1,300-metre stretch for Rs 1.64 crore.
  • Sarfabad: Maintenance of 3,344.10 metres of sewer pipeline for Rs 1 crore.

RP Singh, General Manager of the Noida Authority, stated, "We were receiving numerous complaints about sewage problems in these areas and have decided to resolve the overflow issues permanently."

MLA Pankaj Singh added, "With these projects, the sewer problems will be properly resolved in the villages. We urged the Noida Authority to address these concerns after residents raised them repeatedly."

The initiative is critical as monsoon rains increase pressure on sewer networks. Without timely repairs, rainwater mixes with sewage, causing overflowing drains, waterlogging, and backflow into residential areas, posing health and safety risks.
