The Noida Authority has officially invited bids for the installation of sound barriers along the Bhangel Elevated Road, following persistent complaints from local residents regarding escalating noise pollution since the road's inauguration in November 2025. The project is estimated to cost Rs 18.8 crore and is expected to be completed within two months.
Project Details
The sound barriers will be constructed using 120mm-thick aluminium soundproof panels filled with high-density rockwool, a material specifically designed to absorb noise effectively. Each panel will measure 1.3 meters in height and 3 meters in width, featuring a special powder-coated finish for enhanced durability and weather protection. The appointed agency will be responsible for the entire process, including the supply, installation, and fixing of the noise barrier system.
According to AK Arora, General Manager of the Noida Authority, the project will cover junction numbers 10, 11, and 12, which are located near sectors 42, 47, 48, 49, 107, and 110. The primary objective is to reduce traffic noise for the nearby residential areas that have been adversely affected since the elevated road became operational.
Timeline and Bidding Process
The last date for submission of applications for this project is June 1, while the tenders themselves will be opened on June 2. The Authority aims to expedite the process to ensure timely completion of the sound barriers.
Background of the Elevated Road
The 5.5-kilometer, six-lane flyover was constructed at a cost of Rs 608 crore and has significantly reduced travel time between Noida and Greater Noida or Dadri. It has also eased congestion on the heavily encroached Dadri-Surajpur-Chhalera (DSC) Road below, benefiting commuters traveling towards Salarpur, Chhalera, Barola, Bhangel, Agahpur, and nearby villages. However, as the elevated road passes through densely populated areas, residents have complained of loud traffic noise throughout the day and night. Numerous houses located in close proximity to the elevated road have been severely impacted by the noise.
Additional Developments
Last week, the Authority decided to develop a diamond-shaped interchange on the Bhangel Elevated Road to connect it with Vishwakarma Road. This interchange will be constructed near Sunworld Vanalika in Sector 107 on one side and the Hanuman Temple in Sector 49 on the other. It is expected to play a crucial role in improving connectivity for nearby areas, including the 7x sectors.
The Bhangel Elevated Road was initially proposed in 2013, but construction only began in June 2020. The project faced repeated delays due to funding gaps, design changes, and slow approvals. The original deadline of December 2022 was extended multiple times before the project was finally completed after more than five years.
