Noida Sector 105 Residents Grapple with Extended Power Supply Disruption
Residents of Sector 105 in Noida have been confronting severe and persistent power supply issues for the past fifteen days, with numerous households reporting that they are receiving only two phases instead of the standard three-phase electricity supply. This ongoing disruption has not only affected daily life but has also rendered lifts in several residential complexes completely non-functional, posing significant inconvenience and safety concerns for occupants.
Resident Accounts Highlight Widespread Inconvenience
According to reports from about a dozen houses, one phase of the power supply has been missing for nearly a fortnight. Rohit Goel, a resident of B-168, emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, "The ongoing power disruption has made lifts in a few residential complexes non-operational, creating significant inconvenience for residents, especially the elderly and those with mobility issues." He further noted that repeated complaints lodged with electricity department officials have failed to yield any tangible resolution, leaving residents frustrated and helpless.
Deepak Sharma, President of the Sector 105 Resident Welfare Association, corroborated these concerns, revealing that approximately a dozen residents had formally reported the missing phase in their power supply. "Complaints to the electricity department's helpline number 1920 went unanswered, and meetings with officials have resulted in little progress," Sharma lamented, highlighting the communication breakdown and lack of effective action from authorities.
Official Response and Underlying Causes
In response to the mounting complaints, Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chief Engineer of the Noida power department under PVVNL, acknowledged the issue but downplayed its scale. He attributed the problem to a fault in one phase of the low-tension underground line, affecting only a limited number of houses. "Our team worked diligently on the issue, and it was addressed by Sunday evening," Jain asserted, suggesting that the matter had been resolved. However, resident accounts indicate ongoing disruptions, casting doubt on the completeness of the fix.
Additional Concerns: Billing and Meter Malfunctions
Beyond the immediate power supply woes, residents have raised serious concerns regarding electricity billing irregularities. Issues such as delayed bills, incorrect bill amounts, and malfunctioning meters have compounded their frustrations. Some residents reported that replacing faulty meters can take up to two months, exacerbating financial and logistical burdens.
Superintending Engineer Vivek Kumar Patel proposed a potential solution, suggesting that a camp could be organized in coordination with the Resident Welfare Association to address these billing and meter-related grievances. "We are open to collaborating with the RWA to streamline the resolution process and ensure residents' concerns are heard and acted upon," Patel stated.
Resident Skepticism and Call for Accountability
Despite these official assurances, residents remain deeply sceptical about a swift and lasting resolution. Many cite previous delays in addressing electricity-related complaints, which have eroded trust in the department's responsiveness. The combination of non-functional lifts, unreliable power supply, and billing inaccuracies has created a climate of uncertainty and dissatisfaction among Sector 105 inhabitants.
The persistent power crisis in Noida's Sector 105 underscores broader infrastructure challenges in urban areas, calling for more proactive maintenance and transparent communication from utility providers to prevent such prolonged disruptions in the future.
