Noida Authority Unveils Ambitious Road Redevelopment Plan for Enhanced Connectivity
The Noida Authority has announced a comprehensive plan to redevelop and expand the Pushta Road into a major 10-lane bypass, creating a crucial alternative corridor connecting Delhi to the Yamuna Expressway and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. This initiative aims to alleviate anticipated traffic congestion once the airport becomes operational.
Pushta Road Transformation: From Four Lanes to Ten
Currently a four-lane, 31.2-kilometer stretch running along the Yamuna embankment from Sector 94, the Pushta Road is set for a significant upgrade. Officials plan to initially widen it to at least six lanes, with provisions for future expansion to a full 10 lanes. The road will terminate near the Yamuna Expressway at Gharbara village, adjacent to Gautam Buddha University.
Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh emphasized that this planning is driven by projected traffic growth. "At present, the Noida Expressway serves as the primary road linking Noida with Greater Noida and Jewar. However, traffic pressure will intensify significantly once the airport becomes operational," he stated, adding that the Pushta Road redevelopment is designed to accommodate this future demand.
Integrating Key Elevated Road Projects
The plan integrates several ongoing and proposed road projects to create a seamless network. A central component is the 893-crore Chilla Elevated Road, being developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation Limited. This six-lane, 5.9-kilometer elevated stretch will connect the Chilla Regulator near Mayur Vihar in Delhi to the Mahamaya Flyover in Noida. Nearly half of the construction work has been completed, with the project expected to be ready by December next year.
From the Mahamaya Flyover, the Authority proposes a 1.4-kilometer elevated link road toward the Okhla Bird Sanctuary metro station. This link will effectively tie the Chilla Elevated Road with the Pushta Road at Sector 94. Once operational, it will allow vehicles coming from Delhi to access Pushta Road directly, bypassing the main expressway.
Feasibility Studies and Implementation Timeline
A separate proposal for a 31.2-kilometer six-lane elevated road along the same Yamuna embankment alignment—from Okhla Barrage near Sector 94 to the Yamuna Expressway—had been floated earlier. This plan included three loops to link the corridor to central Noida sectors. A feasibility study for this elevated road is currently underway.
Last month, a joint team from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and the irrigation department conducted a physical inspection of the proposed alignment. UPEIDA has engaged consultant Almondz Global Infra to conduct the feasibility study. Officials indicated that a detailed project report will be prepared within three months of the consultant's submission, with construction expected to be completed within 24 months. The costs for these projects are to be shared among the Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna authorities.
Utilizing Available Land and Formal Approvals
The existing Pushta Road currently has two lanes on each side, with floodplain land on its right side that officials confirm could be utilized for widening. Executive engineer BK Singh of the Agra canal works division noted that a formal proposal will be drawn up and submitted to the state government for necessary approvals.
This integrated road network, comprising the Pushta Road bypass, Chilla Elevated Road, and the new elevated link, promises to transform regional connectivity, providing a vital alternative route for commuters and freight traffic heading to the new international airport and beyond.
