The Karnataka government has introduced a paperless registration process on an experimental basis in Chamarajanagar district. This initiative aims to streamline property transactions by digitizing land records and minimizing physical documentation.

Pilot Project Details

The pilot project, launched by the Department of Stamps and Registration, will initially cover a few sub-registrar offices in Chamarajanagar. Under this system, documents such as sale deeds and encumbrance certificates will be processed electronically, eliminating the need for paper copies.

Key Features

  • Digital Signatures: All documents will be signed digitally using Aadhaar-based e-signatures.
  • Online Verification: Encumbrance certificates and other records will be verified online through the Kaveri online portal.
  • Reduced Processing Time: The paperless system is expected to cut down registration time from days to hours.

Benefits

The move is expected to reduce corruption, prevent forgery of documents, and provide a transparent mechanism for property registration. It also aligns with the government's Digital India initiative.
