Patna Municipal Corporation Launches Summer Water Relief Initiative
The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has implemented a comprehensive summer relief program to help residents cope with the intense heat. The civic body has strategically deployed drinking water kiosks and mobile 'Nigam Neer' (water-on-wheels) units throughout the city to ensure easy access to potable water during the scorching summer months.
Mobile Water Units Deployed at Key Locations
The mobile Nigam Neer service vehicles represent a crucial component of this initiative. Each vehicle is equipped with a substantial 200-litre water tank and multiple taps, allowing citizens to conveniently refill their water bottles. These mobile units have been strategically stationed at several high-traffic locations across Patna to maximize accessibility.
Current deployment locations include:
- Patna Junction railway station
- Rajendra Nagar Railway Station
- GPO roundabout area
- Vikas Bhawan premises
Municipal officials have confirmed that these mobile units are not static installations. Based on daily demand patterns and official directives, the PMC is actively relocating the vehicles to additional crowded areas including NMCH (Nalanda Medical College and Hospital), Sabzibagh, and Ashok Rajpath to serve larger populations.
Permanent Water Kiosks Established Across Municipal Circles
In addition to the mobile units, the PMC has established numerous permanent drinking water kiosks, traditionally known as 'pyau', throughout the city. Each kiosk features two substantial 100-litre earthen pots that provide cool drinking water to passersby.
Municipal staff maintain these facilities through regular cleaning and scheduled refilling to ensure water quality and availability. The kiosks have been distributed across all administrative circles of the municipal corporation, providing nearly comprehensive ward coverage.
Areas benefiting from these installations include:
- New Capital Circle
- Patna City Circle
- Kankarbagh Circle
- Azimabad Circle
- Bankipur Circle
- Patliputra Circle
Official Statement and Public Feedback Mechanism
PMC officials emphasized that these facilities were established specifically to ensure easy water access and provide tangible relief from the oppressive summer heat. The initiative represents a proactive approach to public welfare during challenging weather conditions.
The corporation has also implemented multiple channels for citizens to report any service deficiencies or water quality concerns. Residents can provide feedback through:
- Local circle offices
- Designated toll-free numbers
- Municipal WhatsApp chatbot service
This comprehensive summer water relief program demonstrates the municipal corporation's commitment to addressing seasonal challenges and improving quality of life for Patna residents during extreme weather conditions.
